Stevan Dohanos was a Westport, CT resident

and a highly accomplished artist and illustrator. His

best known art included more than 100 covers

of “The Saturday Evening Post” in the 1940’s and
1950’s.  He was also a founder of the Famous Artist
School in Westport.  He is a well-listed artist, and
his work hangs in numerous museums including:

 

Whitney Museum of American Art

The National Museum of American Illustration

Smithsonian American Art Museum

American Red Cross

Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts

Brandywine River Museum

 

In 1934, he painted this original watercolor, a Depression era

painting depicting houses in the vicinity of a coal mine.

It is complimented by an exquisite original wormy chestnut frame.
