Picasso is considered the foremost figure in the twentieth

century art.  This exhibition emphasizes his influence on

British art, and the acceptance of modern art in Britain.

Included are 60 celebrated paintings by Picasso, as well as 90

works by seven of his most prominent British admirers. 

Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore,

Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland, and David Hockney.

Happy Birthday to GRANT WOOD who was born on

February 13, 1891, in Anamosa, Iowa (died 1942).  Wood

painted scenes of the American Midwest, and was best known

for "American Gothic" which is considered a cultural icon,

one of the most famous works of American Art.  He was influenced

by the 15th century Flemish artist Jan Van Eck.  Wood died one

day before his 51st birthday.

QATAR PURCHASES A CEZANNE E-mail

QATAR - The Royal Family is said to have purchased Paul Cezanne's

"The Card Player" for $250 million in 2011.  It was a private sale to them,

reportedly more than was ever paid for one work of art.  Qatar is considered

to be "the world's biggest buyer in the art market."

was born (Feb 3, 1894 - Nov. 8, 1978).  The famous American

painter and illustrator was best known for the cover illustrations

he created for the SATURDAY EVENING POST.  His works
