ENCAUSTICS PAINTINGS E-mail

encaus.600.jpgen_001     March 26, 2012

We recently visited an artist who created paintings

of ENCAUSTICS WAX, also known as hot wax

painting.  This process has been around for more than

2000 years, when it was first used in Egypt and elsewhere.

Pigments are added to the wax and are moved about

with metal tools and brushes before the wax cools.  The painting

displayed here also has materials collaged into the wax.

The artist we were with, used a heat gun to allow more time

to work with the warmed wax.

Today. many artists are regularly creating encaustic art.

Often, the final paintings are very detailed and complex.  The

artwork should last indefinitely, so long as it remains in moderate

temperature.
